Derby council on road name poll: Voting Lara fans won’t have last say

Quick poll update: As of press time, Lara Croft Way, the proposed name for Derby’s new inner ring roads, has so far garnered over twenty-effin’-thousand votes, which, if you are not so inclined to basic computation, is 97% of the total number of votes for all eight options. But the massive gaming community-slash-Lara Croft fandom-driven poll hi-jacking, the Derby council says, won’t be the sole indicator of the winning road name.
“The online vote is only one part of the decision-making process,” a council spokesman has told the Derby Telegraph. “Its results will be considered by council but ultimately councilors get the final decision on naming the two stretches of road.”
All fair and understandable, really. Just be ready for a 20,000-strong fan protest knocking on the council hall come road name announcement day; that is, if poll pulse won’t have its way — or more precisely, its Lara Croft Way. But, hey, voting period’s still on-going. Merlin Way might just overtake; you just never know.
