Series “Tomb Raider” no more; “Lara Croft”, it is

Square Enix Europe has officially announced the first game in the new “Lara Croft” series, dubbed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. So what’s the difference between the “Tomb Raider” and “Lara Croft” series?

Well, for one, Guardian of Light will be “completely new” and “very different”. Vague terms yet again from studio head and new FYLC personal favorite Darrell Gallagher. But, get this: the new Crystal Dynamics game will be available via digital download in 2010 — which in itself is a first for the team.

But what else is new about it, and when do we see the rest of Lara?

GDC 2010, says SEE (yay, guess-work!). Well, not us technically, but the dev groups invited to a “behind closed doors” showing at the SF event. We’re sure someone will sneak in a camera somehow. And we’ll be sure to spoil you with the goodness come leak time.
